Privacy Policy — Verigin

Overview

Verigin builds tools that help people understand whether content is human-written or AI-generated. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it — across our Chrome extension, API, and website.

The short version: we do not collect personal information, we do not track users, and we do not sell data to anyone.

Chrome Extension

The Verigin browser extension analyzes articles and images as you browse news websites. Here is exactly what it does and does not do:

What we send to our servers: image URLs and short excerpts of article text (up to 3,000 characters) from the pages you visit. This is required to perform AI detection scoring.
What we do not send: your identity, your IP address (requests are proxied through our API), browsing history, cookies, form data, or any personally identifiable information.
Local caching: detection scores are cached in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) to avoid repeat API calls. This data never leaves your device except as described above.
Preferences: your on/off toggle state and panel position are saved in chrome.storage.sync, which may sync across your Chrome devices if you are signed into Chrome. No preference data is sent to Verigin servers.
No tracking: we do not use analytics, fingerprinting, or any form of user tracking in the extension.

Content sent to our API (image URLs, text excerpts) is used solely to compute a detection score. It is not stored against any user identifier, not used to build profiles, and not shared with third parties beyond the AI detection vendors required to produce the score (Sightengine, AI or Not, Winston AI, GPTZero). Those vendors' own privacy policies apply to data processed by their systems.

API

If you use the Verigin API directly, we collect:

API key usage: we log which API key made each request and the content type scored (text, image, video). We do not log the content itself beyond a hash used for caching.
Aggregate usage counts: used to enforce plan limits and generate your usage dashboard.
No content storage: image bytes, text, and video frames submitted for scoring are processed in memory and discarded. We do not store your content.

Website

Our website (verigin.ai) does not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics. Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) may be retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes, then deleted.

Third-party vendors

To produce detection scores, content is processed by the following vendors:

Sightengine — image AI detection (privacy policy)
AI or Not — image and deepfake detection (privacy policy)
Winston AI — text AI detection (privacy policy)
GPTZero — text AI detection (privacy policy)

Each vendor receives only the minimum data required to perform their specific detection task. We do not share API keys, user identifiers, or metadata with vendors.

Data retention

Detection score cache: 24 hours, then automatically purged.
API usage logs: 90 days.
Web server logs: 30 days.
Local browser cache: 24 hours per entry, max 500 entries, managed entirely on your device.

Your rights

Because we do not collect personal information, there is no profile to access, correct, or delete. If you have questions about specific data, contact us at support@verigin.ai.

Children

Verigin is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Verigin after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
